Hedstrom Lumber Company announces their annual free tree seedling giveaway

Hedstrom Lumber recently announced the date of their annual free tree seedling giveaway as May 3, 2024. Cook County property owners or renters may order up to 200 seedlings per household, with a minimum order of five seedlings. This year the seedling options are red pine, white pine, and white spruce from PRT Growers in Brighton, MI. According to Hedstrom Lumber, "a typical seedling is 6-12″ tall and includes a small soil plug to protect the roots."
Orders must be placed in advance via the Hedstrom Lumber website and are expected to sell out (typically by mid-April). Seedling pickup day is Friday, May 3, from 10 am - 4 pm at the Hedstrom Lumber garage. All seedlings must be picked up on that date. If you are not able to make it in person, someone can pick up your order for you. There are no holds.
A reminder email from Hedstrom Lumber will be sent the week before the pickup date.
According to the Hedstrom Lumber website, "Hedstrom Lumber Company has given out over 600,000 tree seedlings to Cook County property owners & renters since 1997."
