Before the author spoke, community members were able to purchase books, have their books signed, and meet Cary J. Griffith. During the talk, the author started by thanking all the people involved in creating the book, including the over 100 that he interviewed. Additionally, he thanked all the people who worked (and continue) to restore the Gunflint and Boundary Waters area after the devastating and powerful storm. Griffith then read the prologue of the book, and opened the floor for the community to ask questions and share experiences of the July 4, 1999 blowdown. Some of the audience members mentioned in the book came to share more of their stories. The event ended with more book signing and mingling.
