The Superior Hiking Trail Association is excited to announce this year’s topics and presenters for our annual People, Nature, Footpath webinar series.

Each year, we host this educational webinar series to help trail users gain new skills, meet amazing adventurers, and learn about the natural history and ecology of the North Shore. An Introduction to the Superior Hiking Trail, in Spanish
with Huellas Latinas Executive Director Luisana Méndez
Saturday, February 24th, 2-3 p.m.

In northeastern Minnesota, a 300-mile trail runs from Duluth to the Canadian border called the Superior Hiking Trail. The trail passes beautiful waterfalls and rivers, through ancient forests, to soaring views of Lake Superior.

The trail is an amazing place to adventure with friends and family and feel the peace of connecting with nature. Join us for an online class with Huellas Latinas founder Luisana Méndez and the Superior Hiking Trail Association.

Huellas Latinas was born to inspire and empower Latinx communities to embrace and participate in outdoor recreation, through inclusive and culturally responsive year-round outdoor recreation programs to promote well-being and connections with nature.

En el noreste de Minnesota, un sendero de 300 millas va desde Duluth hasta la frontera con Canadá que se llama el “Superior Hiking Trail” en inglés. El camino pasa por hermosas cascadas y ríos, a través de bosques antiguos, hasta vistas altísimas del Lago Superior.

El sendero es un lugar increíble para aventurarse con amigos y familiares y sentir la paz de conectarse con la naturaleza. Únase a nosotros para una clase en línea con la fundadora de Huellas Latinas, Luisana Méndez, y la Asociación de Rutas de Senderismo Superior.

Running the Entire Superior Hiking Trail in 5 Days
with ultrarunner and current unsupported FKT record-holder Alan Chapman
Saturday, March 23rd, 2-3 p.m.

A conversation with Alan Chapman, who set a new Fastest-Known-Time record on the Trail in 2023. Alan’s run generated a lot of excitement and questions this summer. Alan will share what his FKT experience was like, how he prepared for his record-setting run, tips about gear and fueling long-distance treks on the SHT, and more.

Take Your Best Shot: Trail Photography for Kids
with Kathy Oaks, author, educator, and photographer
Saturday, April 20th, 10-11 a.m.

Take great photos of the Superior Hiking Trail, and wherever you hike. The Trail is famous for its beautiful landscape, whether you want to see sweeping views of Lake Superior or the tiny mushrooms that grow in abundance in the Northwoods. Join Kathy Oaks for this online class for kids on how to best capture the beauty of the Trail in pictures. We’ll also provide a photo scavenger hunt for attendees to practice the skills they learn in class while out on the SHT!

2024 SHTA Volunteer Opportunities Webinar
Tuesday, March 7th, 7-8:30 p.m.

Interested in giving back to the trail you love this year and volunteering with the Superior Hiking Trail Association? Join Volunteer and Education Coordinator Barbara Budd and Trail Operations Director Tamer Ibrahim for our annual Volunteer Opportunities Webinar. Opportunities include 2024 Trail Clearing Weekends, Duluth trail maintenance and renewal events, three multi-day events on the Cascade River Loop, two all-women/femme/non-binary weekends, corridor clearing and blazing weekends, drainage trainings, adopter openings, Trail Ambassador Program, and more.
