The Grand Marais Film Society is getting ready for its next screening this Saturday, February 3rd at 7 pm at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts, just a few days after it was announced that it was nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. Nels Larsen, CPA of Guidance Accounting sponsor this month’s film.

“We are very excited to be bringing such a widely praised film to town,” said Grand Marais Film Society Board member, Joe Beres. “And the community’s support of the film society is truly what makes it possible to continue hosting these events.” Joe Beres’ experience with projection has been key to the success and quality of the screenings.

“It was important to us to find a film that would fit with the Hygge Festival and with Valentine's Day,” said Lynnea Morse, another Grand Marais Film Society Board Member, “but we also wanted it to appeal to a wide audience. We think that while the film explores many romantic themes, the broader topics in this film of immigration, and the opportunity to reconnect with people through social media would add a lot to the experience for everyone.” The Grand Marais Film Society is also committed to bringing films to the community that portray various characters and experiences.

“We are thrilled to partner again with the Y to make these films accessible to parents,” Morse said, “And the Y continues to be a great community resource.” The Cook County YMCA is offering childcare that will begin 90 minutes before the film, giving parents a chance to get dinner together.

In March we’re looking forward to trying something new - two screenings on the same day and for different audiences. “We have been inundated with requests for more films, and we’re experimenting on the most effective way to host these events for our neighbors,” added Beres.
