Those of us who live or visit Cook County typically enjoy winter. And when that winter doesn't come in the way that we hope, we get creative. That's what the owner of Gunflint Trail's Hungry Jack Lodge did by coming up with the idea to create an eight-mile ice skating trail along the lake.
The ice skating trail has gained state-wide attention, with Duluth's WDIO News publishing an article and video about it, as well as KSTP 5 News from the Twin Cities, who interviewed Sarah Jorgenson-Hallberg, owner of Java Moose in Grand Marais, on-site.
Interested ice skaters are welcome to use the trail for free, and users must bring their own equipment and gear (Stone Harbor Wilderness in Grand Marais has Nordic skates available to rent). You can also grab a meal at the Lodge before or after your skate.
