Beltrami County Officials issue restrictions on Upper Red Lake after multiple rescue incidents

In a press release issued on December 30, 2023, the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office announced new restrictions to all vehicles, including ATVs, cars/trucks, and snowmobiles. The restrictions began at sunset on December 30, and all vehicles were required to be removed by that time.
According to the release, "Per Minnesota Statute 86B.106, vehicles are barred from traversing Upper Red Lake until the Sheriff rescinds this order. A violation of this order is a misdemeanor under the Minnesota Statute. If convicted, fines, penalties, and restitution may be sought by Beltrami County."

The restriction will stay in place until the Sheriff, in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the DNR Enforcement Division, and the Minnesota Department of Safety determine conditions can once again support vehicles.
