On Monday, December 4, 2023, North Shore Waste announced that it will be expanding trash pick-up service for residents west of the Cascade River in Lutsen, including Tofte and Schroeder. A North Shore Waste Facebook post specified areas included but not limited to "Caribou trail and Caribou Lake, Ski Hill Road homes, Sawbill Trail, and Cramer Road." A similar service is currently offered for residents of Hovland and the Pike Lake area.

Boreal Community Media reached out to Dustin Hanson, co-owner of North Shore Waste, who shared that the new pick-up service will start on January 1, 2024. Because of the size limitations of many side roads in the county, North Shore Waste will use pick-up trucks to collect waste, which will then "Satellite back to the larger trash truck," according to Hanson.

Trash pick-up rules in already established areas will be applicable for the new service, including having trash out on the curb by 8 am on collection day. Additionally, Hanson shared that "
Folks that are using this service will need to bag the garbage so that it can be transferred into a pick-up truck, then back to a larger garbage truck."
