From Care Partners of Cook County - November 8, 2023

Here’s the scoop on November news and events from Care Partners…

We continue to partner with Cook County Public Health on the Age Friendly Cook County initiative. This community-driven effort is aimed at enhancing the quality of life in our county by uniting local leaders and partners to shape a future where every resident is valued, supported, and engaged in every life stage. Your valuable insights are crucial to the success of this effort!!!!! Thanks to all who have participated in the first stage of this process by completing the online survey or attending a community listening session. It’s not too late to share your thoughts!! Click here for survey link and info about remaining community listening sessions!

Dessert to the Max: Wednesday, November 15, 4-6pm, Arrowhead Center for the Arts, hosted by our friends at Boreal Community Media

Learn more about the amazing work done by more than 20 of our fellow Cook County non-profit organizations, enter for a chance to win FABULOUS door prizes (including the grand prize of a 2-night stay in a one-bedroom condo at Bluefin Bay Resort) AND eat free treats…what could be better?!?! (Attendees must be present to win prizes.)  You also won’t want to miss a special presentation by Erik Torch, Executive Director of the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation, who will be speaking about the importance of non-profits in the county. We hope you’ll stop by the Care Partners table and say “hi!”!!!  Here’s an article with all the details!

Lunch & Learn: Wednesday, November 29, noon-1pm Cook County Adult Protective Services: Myths & Facts

We know that elder abuse happens everywhere – even in Cook County. What is less clear is when and how to report suspected abuse or neglect, and what happens next. Martina Johnson from Cook County Public Health & Human Services and Sheriff Pat Eliasen will help us learn what elder abuse is (and what it ISN’T), the scope of the issue in Cook County, the process for reporting, how our local authorities respond when a report is received, and what Adult Protective Services hopes to achieve. Lunch will be provided for the first 20 people who register for the in-person class. Click here to register!

Memory Café is taking a break for the months of November and December. We will meet via Zoom the third Thursday of the month from 1-2:30pm in January, February, and March! Contact Care Partners if you’d like the Zoom link!

Light Up a Life: Thursday, December 7, 5:30pm, Johnson Heritage Post

Care Partners annual “Light Up a Life” ceremony offers community members the opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one during the holiday season. Each $5 donation lights one bulb in memory of one person on our memory tree, located downtown in front of the Johnson Heritage Post. Donation forms are available in the November issue of Northern Wilds, on our website, and on various bulletin boards around town. All donations are tax deductible and help us support older adults on the journey of aging and end of life in Cook County.

Thanks so much!
