The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council recently announced its most recent grant recipients for a variety of categories.

Artist Access Grant
Courtney Cochran
Funds will be used to produce and print 1-3 herbalism zines that center on LGBTQIA2S+ wellness, health, and liberation.
Aliya Marxen
Funds will be used to produce a seasonal food publication that takes the reader on a deep dive into different ingredients, their history, their modern place in our society, and how to properly prepare them.
Charvis Harrell
Funds will be used to purchase materials to create a new body of work that explores black history in the Duluth region.
Samuel Weston
Funds will be used to write the screenplay for a fantasy film.
Bethany Jackson
Funds will be used to frame a collection of ink and watercolor paintings.
Brianna Borka
Funds will be used for supplies to create art kits for a Free Little Art Gallery.
Duke Nguyen
Funds will be used to create a new collection of oil paintings.
Individual Artist Project Grant
Robin Penner
Funds will be used to complete a series of 1/4 size historically dressed figures, with accurately created full costume ensembles.
Carolyn Olson
Funds will be used to complete a series of eight gouache paintings (limited color pallet) which will be used to create a series of eight 3-color linoleum block prints.
Molly Wick
Funds will be used to complete major revisions of the first draft of my memoir to prepare it for publication.
Adrea Beres
Funds will be used to create a herbarium specific to the Cook County Region to use as a digital reference to create imagery that is then transferred onto my ceramic work.
Susanna Gaunt
Funds will be used to support travel expenses and time for a solo exhibition in the Kaul Gallery at Watermark Art Center in Bemidji, MN.

Funds will be used to self-publish a book of approximately 40 essays and short fiction about the Northern lifestyle and the natural treasures in the Minnesota Arrowhead.

Funds will be used to continue exploring multi-component pieces that incorporate porcelain with harvested clay pieces that will be shown in a juried group show in February 2024.

Funds will be used for the creation and framing of 7 new oil paintings varying in size and subject matter.
Chip Borkenhagen
Funds will be used to update their website, attend virtual educational opportunities, and for materials to continue to evolve their painting style.

Rural & Community Art Project Grant
Great Expectations School
Funds will be used to support a Bottle Cap Mural. A collaborative mural project created by kindergarten through eighth-grade students with the guidance of teachers, artists, and volunteers.
Robert Penner (Hovland Arts Festival)
Funds will be used toward entertainment for the Hovland Arts Festival.
Embarrass Region Fair Association
Funds will be used for live music performances for adults and teens, and children’s entertainment at the Embarrass Region Fair.
Good Harbor Hill Players
Funds will support an outdoor pageant, featuring large- and small-scale puppets and live music, celebrating the summer solstice.
Boundary Waters Choral Festival
Funds will be used to support the production of the Ely Memorial High School’s performance of the “Frozen” musical.
Gunflint Trail Historical Society
The funding will allow the association to hire an artist in residence.
Ely Area Television
Funding will help facilitate the 4th annual holiday concert, showcasing the talents of several Ely area artists which will be recorded and broadcast.
