The North Shore has two color seasons. The maples and oaks along the Sawtooth Mountains turn mid-September. All of those leaves are now on the ground. In October the birch and aspen next to Lake Superior turn yellow and gold.

This week I hiked into the Temperance River Valley about two miles upstream. It is an easy hike into this area from the Superior Hiking Trail Parking lot on the Temperance Road. There are several pools where you can get beautiful reflections. The golds this year were some of the best that I have seen. They just glowed from the late afternoon sun.
