Cook County Sheriff's Office announces potential traffic congestion on Gunflint Trail due to USFS prescribed burns this week

On Monday, October 16, 2023, the Cook County Sheriff's Office posted a road congestion and safety alert on Facebook due to USFS-prescribed burns along the Gunflint Trail this week.
According to the Facebook post, Monday, Tuesday, and potentially Wednesday this week will see active burns along the Gunflint Trail. Some safety concerns are being raised due to the proximity of the burn piles near the road. Fire people and engines directing traffic, public information people, signage, and USFS personnel will be on-site during the active burn time of 10-4, and as needed if piles are still smoking, or burning - which is expected to last for several days.
