This month, Care Partners of Cook County hosted the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's,® the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. Two teams represented Cook County; the Grand Marais team, which completed their walk on September 23, and the Grand Portage team, which completed their walk on September 9.
On Saturday, the 23rd, people from all over Cook County showed up to walk in memory or in honor of a loved one with Alzheimer's or another dementia, to advocate for dementia-friendly communities, and to show support in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
Despite the rainy fall equinox, Team Grand Marais walked through downtown and west on the Gitchi-Gami state trail. They walked anywhere from one-half mile to three miles.
This is the first year Grand Marais has had a team in the walk, and they hope to make it an annual event. As of 9/23/23, the Grand Marais team raised 127% of their fundraising goal, and the Grand Portage team is at 66% of their goal.
Donations are still being accepted through the Grand Portage and the Grand Marais teams. You can find the team pages below:
