Summertime Fun

J is for June and also July both of those months really flew by.

We breezed through August and are thankful for sun. Now out to the patio for a little fun.

As Fisherman’s picnic was going on we had our own little Fish Pic right here at North Shore Living.  Residents gathered out on the patio for our infamous minnow race. Thank you so much to Buck’s Hardware for the donation of minnows which were named Sis, Seymor, Otto, Blondie, Pete, Chum, and Einar. This year our volunteer Sharon Brenner and her minnow Nic were the ones to beat. Nic knew what to do and darted down the chute time and time again as if a big ol bass were after him. I bet you can guess who named a few of their fish.

Fisherman’s Picnic

As most of the residents were unable to participate in the parade this year we watched it on one of our televisions via the webcam off the roof compliments of the Tavern. Yvonne Smith was all smiles as she enjoyed riding in the parade on our new electrobike and Tom Hedstrom was glad to spread his charm while riding as a passenger in the front seat of one of our ambulances. A special thank you to the Lion’s club for donating huge delicious fish burger’s for the residents to enjoy.

Birthday’s and Fun

Char Anderson, Delores Saethre, Iris Shepard and Diane Bennett and Eleanor Waha were among those celebrating their birthday’s this summer. Eleanor’s family provided World’s Best Donuts for family, residents and staff to enjoy on her birthday.

We had a week long Hawaiian theme going August 20-25 week complete with a limbo contest and a little Don Ho music. Our friend Kaleb Klegstad and his mother Tonya made us amazing macadamia nut bars and pineapple fruit salad for our events. We had Happy Hour and great music led by our friend and neighbor Mr. Tom Novotny. Thank you to Sharon Brenner and Ken Netland for helping us out with our antics.

Portage Band has been faithfully coming in to entertain us which almost every resident enjoys. Residents seem to be chomping at the bit and wanting to get to the dance earlier and earlier each month. We have been soaking up the sun as much as possible and enjoying dog days of summer.

Local churches have been providing services for us almost every Sunday which we are thankful for. We have a few new faces in the Activity department. Dani Meyer just graduated high school and Peter Mott came out of retirement and has been a huge addition to us.

Dog Days of Summer and a little humor

Residents have been enjoying my dog Molly aka PP. She has been a lot of comfort and enjoys getting lots of love and pets. It is so wonderful to see residents faces light up when they see a dog coming to love on them. A little funny for you from one of our volunteers Chester Lindskog. One day as a residents was collecting her Bingo winnings Chet suggested instead of candy she could go on a date with him. She didn’t even skip a beat and said she’d rather have the candy. Gotta love them and we do. Remember old age ain’t for sissies, call Lisa at 218-387-3518 to come volunteer at North Shore Living and go out and have some fun.
