Marine Forecast: Dangerous wind and waves today and Thursday

Fast-moving low pressure will produce strong southwest winds over western Lake Superior today. Winds and waves will become hazardous starting late this morning and remain strong until late evening. Afternoon and evening gusts of 20 to 30 knots are forecast. Winds turn northwesterly behind the cold front tonight, weakening for a time before strengthening again early Thursday morning. Gales to 35 knots are possible over the North Shore waters Thursday morning. Widespread hazardous conditions for smaller vessels are expected through the day with winds decreasing Thursday evening.
