Drury Lane Books hosted Larry Weber on Saturday evening as part of their author talk series. A resident of Duluth and an author with a focus on nature writing, he produced a sizable crowd inside the cozy bookstore. As a retired science teacher of 40 years, he is known for putting his decades of knowledge into writing. He has written nature-based newspaper columns for over 25 years and is releasing a new book that is the culmination of those articles.

Weber described how it is not only a wonderful time to be a nature writer, but an even better time to be a nature observer: the access to information, inspiration, and literature is better than it has ever been.

His writing perspective as an observer of local natural processes has kept him connected and honest to his readers in the Midwest.

Weber is also part of WTIP’s Saturday morning radio show, North Shore Weekend, at 9:30 am.

Weber describes the background of his book "Minnesota Phenology" which dives into the seasonal changes in The Northland.

Along with talking about some of his books, Weber described the importance of taking handwritten daily nature notes to remain and become aware of various natural processes. He also mentioned noting the first sightings of plants, animals, and patterns as indicators of the changing seasons.

An array of some of Weber's books are available at Drury Lane Books in downtown Grand Marais.
