Incident Name & Size: August Lake Fire-3 acres
Status: The fire is 85 percent contained.
Description: The fire was detected on August 7, 2023, burning in heavy vegetation with difficult access. The initial suspected cause is lightning. The Forest is using both aerial and ground suppression tactics.
Location: Superior National Forest. Township 61N, Section 17, Range 10W by August and Heart Lakes; approximately 15 miles southeast of Ely, MN. The fire is close to the Prospector ATV Trail; however, there is no recommended change in use currently.
Aerial and ground resources are responding to the fire. Firefighters will continue to suppress the fire, working towards 100 percent containment.
Closures or Campfire Prohibited: None
