Once again, Boreal Community Media, North Point, and Cook County Higher Education have teamed up to offer a Youth Multi-Media Day Camp this summer.

Thanks to a generous grant from Arrowhead Coop in Lutsen as part of their Operation Round-Up program, we are able to offer the week-long camp for free (via reimbursement) for youth aged 10-16 (if you have a 9-year-old that is interested, call Cook County Higher Education at 218-387-3411, and we may be able to accommodate).

As part of the 5-day, 8-hour-a-day camp, campers will learn to create short-format films (commonly used for social media). They will also script, film, star in, and edit their own silent film. Each camper will leave with a basic understanding of photography and videography and how to edit using free (but very effective) programs that they can use on their own. You can view final projects from the 2022 camp here: ttps://photos.app.goo.gl/b4wZEYTA4ZsBmg9v9
  • Monday: Basics of Photography
  • Tuesday: Basic of Portraits and Editing
  • Wednesday: Still Photo Videos and Continuity
  • Thursday: Filming Final Project and Short Format Videos
  • Friday: Filming, Post-Production, and Screenings
Daily Detailed Outline

Instructor and Boreal Community Media Board Member Jaye White said "The Boreal Media Camp is a great way for kids with an interest in photography and videography to learn and have fun in beautiful downtown Grand Marais. Campers will learn some technical information and then write, direct, produce, and even star in a short film final project."

The camp will run from August 7 - 11, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Cost is $50 per youth, but if the camper attends every day, payment is returned. If up-front cost is a barrier, reach out to Cook County Higher Education.

The camp will take place at North Point in Grand Marais.

Campers Need To Bring:

  • Campers can bring smartphones and cameras that they already own. The instructor will provide some DSLRs and video cameras for campers who don’t have any. Bringing their own equipment will help campers learn to use their equipment.
  • Brown Bag Lunch
