On Saturday, April 22, dozens of sites across the state will be participating in National Prescription Drug Takeback Day, including the Cook County Sheriff's Department.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

According to KSTP 5 News, "The DEA’s most recent data shows more than 14,000 pounds of prescription drugs were collected in Minnesota during the April 2021 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event."

Boreal Community Media reached out to Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliason who confirmed that the Cook County Sheriff's Office (143 Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais) will be participating in the event from 10 am to 2 pm.

"We do have a drop-off box located in the foyer of our building." In addition to the April 22 drop-off event, community members can drop off any unused prescription drugs 24/7 in the same location.

According to St. Louis County Officials, medication drop boxes will be staffed and available for take-back from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the St. Louis County Sheriff's offices in Virginia and Hibbing.

You can use this search tool to find a drop-off site near you.
