From the Cook County Food System Network - March 9, 2023

“The Cook County Food System Network aims to connect organizations and engaged, caring community members who are working towards a sustainable, equitable, and more connected local food system through information sharing, opportunity identification, and promoting collaboration. Attendees will leave feeling connected to each other in new ways and excited to continue learning and working together.

Why join us?

The network builds capacity around local and regional food systems topics that require a broad approach with a focus on connection, collaboration, and partnerships. Community-driven topics may include growing our farmers' markets, creating food coalitions, reviewing local food rules and regulations, increasing opportunities for local food processing, supporting local food shelves/ pantries, co-op/ CSA development, addressing food deserts and anti-hunger efforts, farm-to-school programs, supporting rural grocers, and other community-led efforts.

Who is putting this on?

Network meetings are facilitated by the Northwoods Food Project, U of M Extension, and Cook County Public Health and Human Services State Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP).

The Northwoods Food Project is a small non-profit in Cook County working to connect, grow, and support a sustainable local food system in Cook County, Minnesota from farmer to fork. The Food Project has started local community gardens, our local Grand Marais Farmer’s Market, hosted educational events, and more over its history.
