Northland Foundation awards $1,000 grants to Grand Marais's Northern Superior Ski & Run Club, Minnesota Children's Press

The Northland Foundation is pleased to announce that nine grants were recently awarded by the young people serving on its Youth In Philanthropy Board.
The Board is made up of middle school and high school students from across the foundation’s service area who review and make grantmaking decisions with guidance from volunteer adult mentors. The grants that the students award, up to $1000 each, support school and community projects planned and developed by children and youth in the region.
The Board meets three times during the school year: October, January, and April. The next deadline to submit a Youth In Philanthropy grant application for spring and summer project funding is April 1, 2023.

The KIDS PLUS Youth In Philanthropy Program receives funding support from the Scott and Holly Martin Family Foundation, members of the Northland Foundation’s Emeritus Trustee Group, and the Northland Foundation.
The Winter 2023 grants that were awarded are:
Minnesota Children’s Press, Grand Marais: $1,000
To support the creation of an online digital book celebrating the 125 Years of YMCA Camp Miller with the help of day campers ages 5-12 sharing their favorite camp foods, songs, and experiences.
North Superior Ski and Run Club, Grand Marais: $1,000
To support equipment needs for an outdoor program for youth interested in learning a new skiing technique.
Duluth Robotics, Duluth: $1,000
To support equipment needs for continued robotics program exploration.
Laura MacArthur Elementary - ISD #709, Duluth: $835
To support the Student Council in a school-wide effort to bring awareness of opportunities to pledge acts of kindness and anti-bullying.
Cherry Schools - ISD #2142, Iron: $932
To support staff and students learning new design software.
REACH Mentoring Program Youth Adult Partnerships, Cloquet: $1,000
To support community engagement and learning opportunities encouraging the understanding of complex challenges surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Devildogs, Duluth: $1,000
To support an opportunity for kids in kindergarten to Grade 3 to explore robotics through community engagement.
Cloquet Senior High School - ISD #94, Cloquet: $1,000
To support community outreach to young students interested in robotics and engineering opportunities.
Falls High School - ISD #361, International Falls: $500
To support a community service project encouraging a healthy, safe, clean space for students, families, and friends to gather.
