A wildfire at Michigan’s Isle Royale National Park that was possibly sparked by an illegal campfire earlier this month is now 100% contained.

Park officials announced the containment late Monday. While the burn area continues to be monitored, all trails, campgrounds, and docks that had been closed due to the fire are now open. The park’s cross-country camping zones 11 and 12 remain closed.

In the update, officials warned that hazards may still exist in the area and urged visitors to use caution.

“If hiking through the burn area, stay on the trail for your safety. Rock cairns are in place on the Mount Franklin Trail to guide hikers through the area,” the announcement said.

First reported on Saturday, August 13, the Isle Royale wildfire burned an estimated six acres before full containment. Investigators are now seeking information about an alleged illegal fire and associated camp on the Mount Franklin Trail the evening of August 12 and into the morning of August 13.

Anyone with information about the Mt. Franklin Fire can call or text the tipline at 888-653-0009, submit a tip online at go.nps.gov/SubmitATip, or send an email to [email protected].
