An investigation about an attempted sexual assault is underway in Cloquet.

Police said they responded to the 1500 block of Carlton Avenue West Tuesday afternoon.

A 69-year-old woman said a man approached her while walking, brandished some type of weapon, pulled down his pants, and demanded a sexual act.

The press release said after the failed attempt, he fled into the woods, leaving behind a bicycle.

Officers from multiple agencies responded and searched the area. But they believe he was able to flee before law enforcement arrived.

The recovered bicycle had been stolen earlier from Pinehurst Park. It was processed for DNA to help identify the suspect.

Suspect description is Native American, mid 20s, thin, with a mustache, 5’4” to 5’5”.

If you live on the travel routes from Pinehurst Park to Carlton Avenue West and have home surveillance video, and see anyone matching that description between 3pm and 4pm, please contact the department.

At this time, investigators don‘t know if this was a targeted incident or random.

Please call 911 if you notice anyone acting suspicious.
