Polls open at 8 a.m. Friday for those wishing to cast a ballot for the upcoming primary election in Minnesota.

Citizens in the state will be able to pick their candidates in local and state races.

Anyone who is eligible to vote can vote early for any reason – however, if you need to register to vote, or haven’t voted in the last four years, you will need to bring a proof of residency. If that doesn’t apply to you, then you don’t need to bring anything to vote.

You can also vote by mail by requesting an absentee ballot from the secretary of state’s website if you’re registered to vote – you’ll just need a witness to complete that vote before sending it in. Make sure you mail it back before Election Day.

If you plan to vote in-person, make sure to go to your county election office. CLICK HERE to find your office.

While Friday is the beginning of the early voting period, you can cast your ballot through August 8 for the primaries.
