The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is encouraging motorists to slow down and drive cautiously through work zones.

“While daily traffic volumes in the Metro area are still slightly down, we anticipate Memorial Day travel statewide will be similar to pre-pandemic levels,” said Brian Kary, traffic operations director, MnDOT’s Regional Transportation Management Center.

MnDOT is warning of specific road projects happening in the Northland during the Memorial Day weekend.

Highway 61 near Stewart River and Silver Creek has a Bridge bypass at Silver Creek with narrow lanes and no shoulders.

The Kelsey Beach parking lot at Stewart River is closed.

Highway 123 in Sandstone has lane closures and detours.

Highway 194 has lane shifts and lane closures near the Highway 194 and Highway 53 intersection.

MnDOT says motorists should check 511mn.org to plan their routes before they go.
