Storm leaves over 1,600 Lake Country Power members without power

Monday's thunderstorm activity impacted electric services for more than 2,100 Lake Country Power members at its peak, with hail, lightning and wind blowing across the cooperative's service area.
As of just before 6:00pm, Lake Country Power says line crews are working to restore service at 44 various outage points, primarily in the northern region of the cooperative's service territory which was hit the hardest. over 1,600 customers are still in the dark.
Trees took down power lines, with at least three broken poles reported at this time. LCP says crews and dispatchers will work into the night until all service has been restored.
If you see a downed power line, you are advices to stay away and call the power company to report it immediately. Derek Howe, P.E. chief operating officer for Lake Country Power says, "There is no way to tell if a power line is energized just by looking at it. Always assume it can carry current strong enough to kill."
Members may call the cooperative at 1-800-421-9959 to report an outage, or visit the Outage Center online.
LCP provides services to more than 43,000 members across the Northland.
