May 01, 2022 12:36PM ● By Editor

From the Superior National Forest - April 29, 2022

Due to cold and snow, the Forest is preparing to delay the opening of some fee campgrounds later than usual (May 1). Forest staff anticipate that fee (both reservation and first come, first served) campgrounds will open between May 6 and May 12. Water services will be turned on when temperatures allow and may not be available on opening dates. Visitors with reservations prior to the new opening dates will be reimbursed.

For more information please call the local District Ranger Office or visit the campground page on recreation.gov. Contact information can be found on our office page.

ATV trails on the Forest including the Stony Spur Trail, Jackpot Trail, Prospector Trail and Taconite State Trail are are closed until conditions allow for use. Forest road sections of these trails open to all vehicles remain open but designated ATV trails are closed until dry enough to sustain traffic. To check the status of an ATV trail, please visit: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/closures.html

Additionally, you can access our Motor Vehicle Use Map which shows seasonal designations for roads and trails via your smart phone and use it with a mapping app.
