Mental health crisis closes off Lake Avenue ramp to southbound Interstate-35 in Duluth

Around 8:15 on Sunday, Duluth Police Officers responded to male individual experiencing a mental health crisis.

Reports say the male had been jumping out into traffic. And when the DPD arrived to the scene the male was found standing on the Lake Avenue ramp to southbound Interstate-35 guard rail, threatening to jump. 

Officers and members of the Duluth Police Department‘s Crisis Negotiations Team negotiated with the male for over an hour and a half.

The male then decided to jump to the ground below from the guard rail. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transferred to the hospital for treatment to his injuries and a mental health evaluation.

Traffic is now back open in the surrounding area.
