Canada is expected to drop a requirement that vaccinated travellers crossing the border take a pre-arrival COVID-19 test as of April 1.
A senior government official confirmed the change to the Associated Press on Wednesday. An official announcement about "updates to the border measures implemented to protect the health of Canadians due to COVID-19" is scheduled for Thursday.
The change comes a month after the Canadian government loosened testing restrictions to allow rapid-antigen tests for border corssings. Previously, only molecular (PCR) tests, which have a longer wait time, were accepted.
The United States still requires a negative COVID-19 test to enter.
Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra, and Minister of Tourism Randy Boissonnault will hold a news conference Thursday morning.
