A homicide charge has been filed against a juvenile male who is accused of fatally stabbing a 19-year-old relative. The stabbing at a Duluth residence on Friday was reported minutes after police left the home following a previous call.

In an update Tuesday, the Duluth Police Department identified the victim of the stabbing to be Karimah Phuly. Police have said that the victim and suspect are family members but have not disclosed their relationship.

Police had originally responded to a disturbance call at a house in the 1700 block of East Superior Street at about 6:41 p.m. Friday, where there was an allegation that a different adult family member was assaulted. Police spoke to an adult family member, determined that there had not been an assault, and cleared the scene at about 6:55.

Then at 7:04, police were dispatched to the same address on a medical call. Officers found Phuly unresponsive and with stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Police said the St. Louis County Attorney's Office has charged the 15-year-old male with second-degree homicide. The male's age had originally been reported to be 14 in an earlier police news release, which a spokesperson said was due to incorrect information initially given by the suspect.

"The Duluth Police Department wants to send our condolences to Karimah’s friends, family, and loved ones," Tuesday's news release said.

The department said its investigation is still "very active and ongoing."
