Great Expectations School News

Greetings, Families!

Today's newsletter begins with a call to action: Kindergarten enrollment is open for the
2022-2023 school year.  Please share what you love about GES with friends, family, and co-workers and encourage families with eligible kindergarteners to apply by March 25th.  Sharing your experiences can have a huge impact!

Please be sure to complete the family survey below to help us with planning for staffing and space for next school year.  The month of March is traditionally our enrollment window for the coming school year, and this survey will give us your intentions. Thank you for your participation!

In the Classrooms:

The Bear Cubs celebrate 100 days of school in pajamas, with their wacky hats and stuffies!

The Fawns worked on dog sled models and snowshoed Pincushion Mountain!

Wolves West head out for a practice with their snow snakes.

The Lynx built virus traps with Ann Braatas, to keep their classroom air cleaner!  Below are glimpses of their time at North House Folk School this week with hands on learning about Textile Traditions.  They worked with yarn, had an opportunity to weave, and made their own wet felted masterpieces!

Otters Math teacher, Jonathan wears his grandpa's hard hat for Wacky Hat Day.  Below, the Otters get into costume to recite the preamble to the Constitution - by heart!  Very impressive!

Public Health Update

With guidance from Cook County Public Health, we hope to have a "Test to Stay" option available at GES very soon, for staff and students who have had an exposure to Covid 19 while at school.  This would be an alternative to quarantine.  Details to come!

Volunteers Needed

Our regular recycling volunteers, Joni and Nathan Kristenson will be unavailable for two weeks and we need someone to bring the recycling that the Lynx classroom collects from the building, to the Recycle Center.  Can you help an hour each week of 2/28 and 3/7?  If so, call the office for details.  Who knows - you may even find yourself in the next Lynx Recycling Rap video!

As always, please call the office if you have any questions on school-related items.  We are happy to assist you!
