Two-time champion Ryan Redington has scratched from the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.
WDIO reporter Baihly Warfield is at the Trail Center checkpoint says five sled dog teams had headed out on the trail, including Redington. She says Redington had six dogs in harness when he went out, but returned after less than 10 minutes on the trail.
Six dogs are the minimum that a team can have in the race. Redington started the race on Sunday with 12 dogs.
He won the race in 2018 and 2020.
Earlier in January he was running his team on the Tri-County Corridor near Brule, Wis., when a snowmobile veered toward them, injuring two of his dogs.
