Donations made to The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles at 13 area Super One stores will be matched.

It’s part of the annual Miner’s Match campaign.

It starts Monday, December 13, and runs through Friday, December 24.

The Salvation Army said up to $50,000 will be matched thanks to a challenge from Miner’s Incorporated, owner of Super One Foods.

Super One locations include Duluth, Superior, Virginia, Hibbing, Cloquet, Grand Rapids, and Two Harbors.

Speaking on behalf of Miner’s Inc., Patrick Miner said, “The Salvation Army does a tremendous job helping others in need and performs a vital role in serving our communities. Since 2011, our Family and Company has committed to match our generous customers donations now totaling over $500,000. We are proud and thankful to be able to support the Salvation Army’s efforts in providing physical and spiritual help to those who truly need a helping hand.”

As of Thursday, the Duluth Salvation Army reported its Red Kettle Campaign is falling behind its fundraising goal. The campaign is down 25% from this time last year. So far they’ve raised almost $77,000. The goal is $220,000.

All the money stays local and supports programs like their food shelf, housing, and Christmas distribution. They need more people to volunteer as bell-ringers with about 600 shifts still open. The campaign ends on Christmas Eve.

The salvation army says they also need more toy donations for their Christmas distribution. They hope to make sure every child in need gets at least two items.
