With winter temps firmly in place again, a reminder about staying safe and avoiding hypothermia and frostbite.

Jon Otis, deputy chief of life safety for the Duluth Fire Department, weighed in. "The biggest thing you can do is to stay dry and stay protected. Any exposed skin is going to freeze quicker through evaporation and because nothing is on it."

No ice is ever truly safe, according to Otis.

If you use a space heater, make sure you plug it directly into the outlet, not an extension cord. And keep a three foot clearance around it.
