Jul 29, 2021 06:59AM ● By Editor

From The Cook County Soil & Water Conservation District - July 28, 2021

The Cook County Soil & Water Conservation District (Cook SWCD) has an immediate opening for a Board Supervisor to fill the vacated seat in District 1 (west County line to Lutsen and north to the Gunflint Trail). The Board is looking for a person with commitment and concern for protecting the land and water resources of Cook County.

Supervisors provide local and regional leadership and make decisions affecting watersheds, lakes, wetlands, soil, and forests. With an experienced and dedicated staff, the Board engages in the public process of policy development, planning, and community outreach as it relates to the natural resources of Cook County. Its mission is to “maintain soil and water quality in Cook County by fostering responsible land use and by controlling soil erosion and non-point pollution. The Board will encourage local conservation efforts by providing educational, technical, and financial assistance for local land users.”

Cook SWCD is a local government unit established under state law and governed by an elected five-member board. Eligible applicants for Board Supervisor must live in their nomination district. Current opening is for District 1, which includes Ranges 3W – 5W (see attached map for general district boundaries). Supervisors receive monthly meeting per diems and mileage reimbursement. If you are interested in this position or know of a potential candidate, please contact the Cook SWCD office at 218-387-3647.
