Jul 01, 2021 07:27PM ● By Editor

A 19-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after friends helped rescue her from the dangerous waters off the Park Point beach Thursday afternoon.

The Duluth Fire Department says the woman was swimming about 40 feet from shore around 3:40 p.m. near 46th Street.

She said a wave knocked her over and she was unable to stand back up.

When she started yelling for help, the woman's friends went out to get her and pulled her to shore.

When rescue teams arrive, they treated her on scene before she was taken to the hospital.

Authorities did not immediately give an update on her condition.

The Duluth Fire Department spokespeople say conditions at the beach can change quickly and there was a red flag warning in place when this situation occurred.

They added that it’s important to pay attention to water conditions and currents when you are at the beach.
