Walz's office said the money will support critical programs that weren't included in the E-12 budget like funding for full-service community schools, expanding rigorous coursework, non-exclusionary discipline training and funding for Life Skills/Transition programs for students in special education.

"Minnesota's students and families faced so many challenges throughout the pandemic and supporting every one of them remains a top priority, especially as we head into the next school year," Walz said. "This funding allows us to invest in things that did not find agreement in the education budget, but that we know our students need in order to get back on track and stay on track in school."

Of the $132 million, $66 million will go directly to public schools to support students using evidence-based strategies; $13.2 million will go to Ignite Afterschool; $13.2 million will be allocated to summer enrichment grants; $26 million will fund grants to public schools for programs not included in the E-12 budget mentioned above; and $13.6 million will be dedicated to building and reinforcing systems and structures within the Minnesota Department of Education.
