The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Friday, June 4.  An alert means there will be critical fire weather conditions, including gusty winds and low humidity during the Watch period.

Northland counties included in this Fire Weather Watch are: Beltrami, Cass, Cook, Crow Wing, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis.

Other counties in Minnesota under the Watch include: Becker, Benton, Big Stone, Chippewa, Clay, Clearwater, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Kandiyohi, Kittson, Lac Qui Parle, Lake Of The Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Meeker, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pennington, Polk, Pope, Red Lake, Renville, Roseau, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, Wilkin and Yellow Medicine.

Officials warn any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is discouraged.

The Minnesota DNR has issued a Red Flag Warning for portions of northwestern Minnesota on Friday, including Kittson, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau counties. The Red Flag Warning will expire at 9 p.m. on Friday.

A Red Flag Warning means the area is experiencing critical weather conditions that are ideal for wildfire, including strong winds and low humidity.

Residents and visitors should not have any fires while the Red Flag Warning remains in effect. The DNR asks the public to check any burning done recently to ensure the fire is out. A spark could become a wildfire under Red Flag conditions.
