The Duluth Dylan Fest celebrations continued Tuesday with the Song From the North Country Songwriter Contest.

Over thirty artists participated in the competition with many songwriters from Minnesota, but also other parts of the United State and a few international writers.

This year’s contest winner is Shane Nelson of Superior with his winning song "Mason Lowe". Shane wrote this song about a bull rider he read about who died at 25 while riding a bull named "Hard Times". That story was Shane’s spark for inspiration, but he said he could write even more about the cowboy.

“There's a part of me that feels like the song isn't even finished,” Shane Nelson said. “Because there is so much that can be said of him and you can only fit so much into a three to four minute song. I mean you could write a two hour song and I’m sure some may stick around to hear that.”

You can listen to Shane’s full song on the Song From the North Country’s Facebook page.
