Countless pop-tops were delivered to the Ronald McDonald House in Duluth Saturday.

They were delivered by the American Legion Auxiliary in Two Harbors, who has been collecting them for a year.

“We’ve got 36 bags, or approximately 90 pounds of pop-tops,” Zandra Davenport, Chairman for Children in Youth at the American Legion Auxiliary said.

According to Davenport, the pop-tops will be converted into money to support families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

“These actually weigh more than the cans and they are cleaner,” Davenport said. “Eventually, they turn into money for the Ronald McDonald House.”

Nancy Hopper, President of the American Legion Auxiliary, expressed her excitement about the delivery Saturday.

“I have been an Auxiliary member for 60 some years and this is one of my favorite projects because you get to help people and it’s not just the veterans we are helping. We are helping everybody—communities and families,” Hooper said.

The Ronald McDonald House opened in Duluth back in February. It is the first in the Northland.

Donations, like these pop tops, are especially helpful as the pandemic continues.
