As the Northland nears record breaking temperatures, many are having fun with the forecast.

But, what will rising temperatures mean for resorts?

Over at Mont Du Lac Resort, Bridgette Duffy, Marketing and Sales manager, said they still have a foundation of about five feet of snow.

“We were lucky enough with the temperature this winter that we made a lot of snow,” Duffy said.

So, even though Mont Du Lac will not be making more snow, Duffy anticipates they will still be open for some time.

“It’s wonderful to see people out, enjoying the sun, enjoying the warmer temperatures and still getting to ski and snowboard,” Duffy said.

On Sunday, many made the trip out to Mont Du Lac to soak up the sun—some skiing and snow tubing in just t-shirts and sweatshirts.

“The sunshine is just magnificent. You couldn’t have asked for better days,” Andrew Welters said.

Welters and his daughter Rowena came up from the Twin Cities with family. Rowena was one of many guests wearing just a sweat shirt.

“It’s nice because my coat is really bulky, so this way I can move better,” Rowena said.

A group of Northland girls also made the trip out Sunday for Adelynn Lacore’s 11th birthday party.

“It’s been really amazing,” Lacore said.

The girls emphasized that the weather really made the day.

“It was nice to have the sun out and not cloudy and lots of people were there. It was a good day to do it,” Isla Nelson said.

Even when the snow does melt, Duffy said tubing will still be an option for a while, thanks to plastic lanes.

“Luckily, we have the plastic lanes, so even when snow on the tubing hill starts to melt, we are still able to have our birthday parties out here and have people enjoying some tubing,” Duffy said.

The resort's closing date is weather dependent, but until Mother Nature melts the snow, Duffy said they welcome people to come out and safely enjoy the warmth.
