Connecting people with the COVID-19 vaccine can be complicated; that's why a Fridley woman is volunteering her time to guide Minnesotans through the process.

Bridget Hovde started helping family and friends sign up for COVID-19 vaccinations and realized people 65 and older needed a helping hand signing up for appointment times.

“I lost my mother at a young age about five years ago and my priority was her health,” Hovde said. “And so I just feel like a little bit of stress and anxiety for people of the 65-plus age bracket. So if I can do anything to help them get vaccines, that's what I am here for.”

Hovde told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS she had never met Kim and Lynn Hennings of Vadnais Heights but connected with their daughter, Lindsey of Woodbury, through Facebook. She then started perusing websites at midnight Sunday and landed two appointment times for the Henningses to get their shots.

“I just posted something and that’s how I happened to connect with Lindsey who then gave me her parents’ information,” Hovde said. “Many of the newly available appointments are posted at midnight, and that’s not always a convenient time for older people to book their time.”

Lindsey Hennings told KSTP she and her parents are extremely grateful for Hovde’s selflessness.

“Bridget is my hero, she’s our hero and she just might have saved my parents’ lives,” Lindsey Hennings said.

Lynn Hennings told Hovde she and her husband would not have known to look for available times at midnight.

“It’s crazy that it happens at midnight, but we are so thankful that Bridget knew this and we are so happy that she took the time to help us,” Lynn Hennings said.

Hovde said she is taking requests through her Facebook page from anyone who needs help booking a COVID-19 vaccination appointment.
