A new brewery is coming to Duluth with a focus on giving back to our local veterans called Warrior Brewing Company.

Warrior Brewing is a new veteran owned and operated brewery opening in April in the Lincoln Park community located at the former location of Lake Superior Brewing Company on 2711 W. Superior St.

The brewery is currently in the construction phase but once it opens, has the goal of giving back with a portion of the proceeds going directly to local veteran nonprofits.

"It's essentially the culmination of two veterans coming together and wanting to benefit the local community in any way that we possibly can. Ben Gibson and I, we're both veterans. I think that the mission to continue serving our community and continue serving our veterans goes on long after our service is over," said Matt Caple, the co-owner of Warrior Brewing.

Caple and Gibson first met in 2019 for a collaboration group for a nonprofit he helped cofound called Lake Superior Warriors, a disabled veterans hockey program. Shortly after, they started looking into opening a brewing company together.

Caple said they also welcome veterans interested in learning the brewery process.

"Our mission is to support veterans and to benefit them any way we can and in doing so we actually would hope that veterans would come down here, check out the process, maybe learn a new craft, something they never even knew that they could even do for themselves. We're a two person operation but we're always looking for help," said Caple.

They hope to start brewing in late March and have the beer on shelves in May. They plan on offering stouts, IPA's, lagers, and sour beer.

"We are a production brewery so we won't have a tap house and we won't be doing on or off sales right away but that's potentially something that we're gonna be looking into," said Caple.
