It was 72 last Friday, and more like 32 this Friday.

And with winter likely here to stay, a few reminders about plow protocols from the city of Duluth. Geoff Vukelich, the street maintenance operations coordinator, said, "Always try and adhere to the parking regulatons."

That means for on-street parkers, move your car on Sundays, from 4-8pm. Not early and not late. Vukelich said, "I applaud people for wanting to do things early, and we appreciate the compliance. But a lot of times, you're actually hurting the situation, because if you move early, and your neighbor waits till 4pm, and now we have cars on both sides of the road and we can't get through."

Also, remember alleys are already narrow, and they don't have much wiggle room with the equipment. Vukelich said it's important if you're storing things in the alley, don't have them sticking out past the telephone poles.

Another big thing is the garbage cans. "We don't like to hit those. We don't like to see trash scattered through the neighborhoods. Ruining property or your barrel.  But if you put it in the road, it's an illegally placed can," Vukelich said. "We don't hit them on purpose. And it's not the snowplow that hits them, it's the snow we're pushing."

Instead, you're supposed to put the bins in your driveway.

He also added to be kind to your snow plow driver, as COVID has put some big challenges in all city departments.

Vukelich added, "I can say that the women and men of the street maintenance department are doing our best to stay healthy and stay safe. Because the snow doesn't care if COVID is here or not."
