The Minnesota legislature passed the bill in their fifth special session last week. And at a union training center in St. Paul, Walz made it official. 

"I think in true fashion and since it was 2020, we couldn't go directly from Point A to Point B. We had to go Point A, C, N, all over the place," Walz said before signing it. "But here we are today. We got to the place we wanted. We have a fiscally responsible investment in Minnesota's future. We have job creation to all corners of the state. We had a bispartisan agreement to get it done." 

It's worth about $1.9 billion, and $125 million will go toward projects in northeastern Minnesota. 

"It's a sense of all of us in it together. There are projects that are equally spread throughout Greater Minnesota and the metro area, they span a whole variety of things that needed to be done. And it was done because of hard work. It was done because of bipartisanship. And it was done because this is what Minnesota does," the Gov. said. 

Barry Davies, business manager for Iron Workers Local 512, thanked legislative leaders and the 25 Republicans who voted in favor of the bill in the House.

"Right now, there's not enough work in construction to keep the construction industry afloat," Davies said. "This job package that we're going to sign today, or Gov. Walz is signing today is going to take care of that." 

Walz said it will be pivotal for Minnesota's future. 

"It takes the investments that we know are needed, it does it at a time of historically low interest rates, and I think we all know because of COVID-19 ... the ability to create jobs, get them in the pipeline and be able to build is going to be absolutely critical," he said.
