From Superior National Golf Course - October 31, 2019

Heath Ekstrom, Business Manager/Head Golf Professional at Superior National at Lutsen, and his brother, Drew Ekstrom, also a PGA member, are proud to announce they raised $7,616.75 for the Folds of Honor 100 Golf Hole Challenge on September 8, 2019.

They started golfing that Sunday at first morning light, about 6:15 AM. With help from Drew’s daughters, Kailey and Shaina, they got hot coffee, food and music. After a bit of stretching and dancing, they raced through the holes. They stopped mid-day for lunch and more stretching. Their wives Leah and Robin joined them for the afternoon.

Drew golfed 117 holes by around 6 PM and then started out on his 4+ hour drive home. Heath continued, for a total of 144 holes. The last few were, literally, shots in the dark. He listened for the ball to hit the ground or the surrounding trees.

Heath said, “We were both pretty exhausted but happy that we beat our record number of holes golfed in the past few years.” Donations and pledges to this year’s successful event brings their four-year total to over $25,000.

On June 22, 2019 Superior National hosted the first George Nelson, Jr. – Challenge Cup. George enlisted and served in the 10 th Mountain Division during the Second World War. Funds raised at this open-to-the-public event were split between the scholarship foundations of the 10 th Mountain Division and Folds of Honor. Both organizations serve veterans and their families.

Heath said, “Thank you to everyone who participated in these two events. Those who pledged, golfed and sponsors who donated gift items. We appreciate everyone who came forward in support of our veterans.”
