CO Anthony Bermel (Babbitt) worked primarily small-game and waterfowl enforcement during the week. Assistance was provided on a rescue in the BWCA involving a hypothermic solo paddler who had capsized his canoe. Enforcement action included no federal duck stamp, an uncased handgun, an unregistered OHM, litter, and driving after revocation.

CO Thomas Wahlstrom (Tofte) checked anglers, ATV riders and hunters. Time was spent following up on a bear-hunting complaint. Wahlstrom attended training at Camp Ripley and assisted in teaching the firearms safety field day in Grand Marais. Enforcement action was taken for hunting, state park, ATV, juvenile and gross misdemeanor violations.

CO Sean Williams (Ely #1) reports cool and occasionally snowy weather contributed to sparse grouse-hunting activity, as reports of birds continued to be poor. Waterfowl hunting participation was again low, but a good number of ducks were seen especially early in the week. Violations included hunting without a license in possession, taking waterfowl without having HIP certification, and dredging a waterway. 

CO John Velsvaag (Ely #2) checked anglers, grouse hunters and duck hunters this past week. Fishing activity picked up a little bit, and grouse hunters did better, too. Velsvaag also attended training at Camp Ripley.

CO Don Murray (Two Harbors) worked small game, ATV, and waterfowl activity during the week. Grouse-hunting success picked up a bit with cooler weather, and geese were moving in large numbers. River anglers were having some luck chasing pink salmon in Lake Superior streams. Enforcement action was taken for licensing violations, and big-game investigations continued.

CO Mary Manning (Hovland) took several nuisance bear reports around mid-trail in and on the edge of the BWCA. Manning again found as many folks out enjoying the fall colors as hunting for birds; they generally were happier with the results of their excursions. Manning attended training at Camp Ripley, investigated a call about illegal road-hunting and checked shore anglers on Lake Superior tributaries.

CO David Schottenbauer (Silver Bay) worked area trails and back roads for grouse hunting activity. He also gave assistance to county deputies and U.S. Forest Service officers. 

CO Darin Fagerman (Grand Marais) attended training at Camp Ripley during the week.
