MUNISING, MI - A woman whose body was found at the base of a cliff at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Wednesday was taking pictures of herself just before she fell from atop a 200-foot cliff to Lake Superior below, investigators said.

Authorities have identified the woman as Tu Thanh Nguyen, 32, of Sunnyvale, California, according to WLUC. She was hiking alone at the time of her death.

Witnesses told authorities they saw Nguyen fall from the edge of a cliff about a half-mile east of the park's Grand Portal Point.

She had been standing there taking pictures of herself when she fell off the edge, the news station reported.

Two kayakers who saw her fall were reportedly able to bring her body to shore near the park's popular Chapel Beach.

Rangers earlier Thursday said they were trying to determine if Nguyen had been hiking alone, according to the Associated Press. They now consider the death accidental.

The National Park Service and Alger County authorities worked together on the recovery effort and to investigate the fatal fall.
