It’s still early, but now is the time to think about running for a seat on the I.S.D. 166 school board.

The filing period for affidavits of candidacy for the office of school board member of Independent School District 166 will begin on July 31, 2018, and will close on August 14, 2018.

The school board member(s) election will be in conjunction with the general election held on Thursday, November 6, 2018. At that election, three members will be elected to the school board for a term of four years.

The filing fee is $2. A candidate must be 21 years of age or more, and must have been a resident of the district from which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the general election, and must have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same primary or general election.

The three school board positions up for election are four-year terms: District 1 (Colvill, Grand Portage, Hovland); District 3 (Cascade, Grand Marais West); and District 5 (Lutsen, Pike Lake, Schroeder, Tofte).

The affidavits of candidacy must be filed with the office of the Cook County Auditor/Treasurer at the Cook County Courthouse. The filing fee must be paid before 5 p.m. on August 14, 2018.
