Food Strategy introducing Northwest Nosh Food Magazine

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO May 25, 2018  

Thunder Bay and Area Food Strategy is introducing Northwest Nosh – the area’s first Special Edition magazine- with a focus on celebrating everything related to the regional food system. “There is so much exciting work being done regionally to build strong and resilient food systems. The Northwest Nosh is an opportunity to celebrate some of those amazing stories,” says Rebecca Johnson, Co-Chair of the Thunder Bay and Area Food Strategy (TBAFS) Executive Committee; “Food shows the connection between our health and well-being, and our economy and environment.” 

The premiere edition of Northwest Nosh is a visual feast of local experiences within the food system. Content includes all seven pillars of the Food Strategy including access, production, infrastructure, procurement, urban agriculture, forest and freshwater foods and school food environments. Readers can learn about state of the art technology at area dairy farms, chefs’ favourite local ingredients, trendy vegetables to grow, an updated Get Fresh! Guide, and stories about community programs, farmers, new partnerships and more.

 “It’s been a decade since Thunder Bay adopted the Food Charter. The release of our first annual Northwest Nosh is a milestone for the TBAFS that provides a snapshot of the vibrant diversity of our regional food system, and the connections we have built by working together,” says Gwen O’Reilly, Member of the TBAFS Executive Committee.

 Northwest Nosh was created in partnership with The Walleye and follows the same full-colour format of the monthly magazine. The Walleye was honoured to be part of the creative team that put together the inaugural issue of Northwest Nosh. 

“This stunning magazine illustrates how far our region has come in building a sustainable, resilient, and healthy food system. We are grateful to the Thunder Bay and Area Food Strategy for their passionate work and the businesses that supported this project,” says Darren McChristie, Editor-in-chief at the Walleye.

 

“This project was a labour of love,” says Karen Kerk, the new Coordinator for the Thunder Bay and Area Food Strategy. “We are extremely grateful to the Walleye for their creativity and support, to our many contributors, and to local businesses for supporting the publication. We are so excited that the final result is so stunning!” 

 

The magazine will be available starting May 25th at Walleye locations including the Thunder Bay Country Market (additional distribution Saturday May 26th from 8am-1pm at the Market), area shops and restaurants, and tourist information centres.
