A Maryland-based propane supplier has expanded its reach in the Northland with the acquisition of North Shore Oil & Propane.

ThompsonGas, headquartered in Frederick, Md., made its entry into the area in 2015 with the purchase of Duluth-based Como Oil & Propane. With Thursday's announcement, it adds heating, plumbing and automobile services for Silver Bay and surrounding communities.

"Wade Leblanc built a company with strong values and a commitment to customer service," Derek Ashmore, regional vice president for ThompsonGas, said in a statement. "The opportunity to carry on his legacy with North Shore Oil & Propane is truly an honor. We look forward offering additional value and services to the community."

North Shore has been in business for more than 50 years. Como, which dates back more than 70 years, has retained its identity and staff under ThompsonGas, and CEO George Koloroutis said North Shore customers shouldn't expect to see significant changes either.
